The weather station of the mont Aigoual, a dedicated space of discovery and activities
With the Incontournables, the Observatory of the mont Aigoual situated at the peak of the Southern Cévennes (in the department of the Gard at 1567m.) Météo-France, the official french government meteorological body, together with the local authority Causses Aigoual Cévennes proposes from May until the end of September to learn and discover whilst having fun all about meteorology. You can meet weather forecasters, see photo exhibitions, conferences, videos, games...
The permanent exhibition
The first part describes the activities of Météo-France : observing, forecasting and climatology. The meteorologists at the Observatory present the tools and techniques used and are happy to answer questions. Visitors can also try to forecast as well as read satelite and radar images thanks to large-screen projections, slides, games and videos. The second part presents the site of the mont Aigoual through the seasons : a photograph exhibition (with more than 800 photos), film and slides showing the daily life and work conditions at the Observatory.
Well known specialists and scientists participate in the summer conference cycle called ‘Dessine-moi un nuage ‘ (draw me a cloud), each Saturday and Sunday in July and August at 3.30pm. The conferences cover themes which relate to meteorology and climatology and are accessible to the general public. They lead to an interactive debate between the public and the speaker which lasts between 1 and 2 hours depending on the questions and the interest of the public.
Conferences are free / Reservations recommended.
